VI Workshop on Resistive Plate Chambers and Related Detectors

 

2nd Bulletin

 

DATE AND PLACE

The workshop will be held at the "Auditório da Reitoria" of the University of Coimbra, the 26th and 27th of November 2001. The auditorium is placed between the Physics and the Chemistry departments, in the main University Campus. A detailed map will be available at the conference Web site (www-lip.fis.uc.pt/~rpc2001).

TRANSPORTATION AND ACCOMMODATION

It is kindly requested that all participants arrange their own plane transportation and hotel reservations. A few selected hotels were contacted by the organization and a list is available at the Web site. The deadline for hotel reservations under this agreement will be the 30th of September.

For those people whishing to reach Coimbra the 25th of November (Sunday) evening a special bus will be available at the Lisbon Airport by 21h and leave the participants at their hotels in Coimbra around 23h00. This service is included in the conference fee, but it can only be guaranteed for those participants that will explicitly request it. A form will be available at the Web site until the 12th of November.

There are generally good train (recommended) and bus services between Lisbon and Coimbra and apart from the service described in the previous paragraph no further special arrangements are foreseen. Links to the train and bus timetables will be available at the Web site.

Transportation by bus will be also provided between the hotels and the conference site.

REGISTRATION

A registration form will be available at the Web site from the 1st of September to the 15th of October. A conference fee of 180 EUR will be requested, which will include a copy of the proceedings, the conference dinner and cultural session, lunches and refreshments during the workshop, optional bus transportation from Lisbon to Coimbra and between the hotels and the workshop site.

Payment should be done in advance by bank transfer or credit card (preferably). Payment in cash (40 kPTE - PTE only) will be also possible at the conference site.

SOCIAL PROGRAM

The conference dinner and cultural session will be held at the "Palácio de S. Marcos", about 10 km from Coimbra. Appropriate transportation will be provided. Casual dress.

Companions are also welcome to participate in the conference dinner. The corresponding reservation can be made in the workshop registration form (40 EUR).

A tourist tour, available for participants and companions, will leave Lisbon (outside the "Oriente" train and subway station) on Sunday 25th November by early morning. The visit will include the "Palacio Nacional de Mafra", the citadel of Obidos (where the lunch will be served) and the Monastery of Batalha. Further information about these historical and picturesque sites will be available in the Web page. The tour will end in Coimbra by early evening, leaving the participants and companions in their hotels. The tour should be reserved and paid (50 EUR) before the 15th of October and may not take place if there will be insufficient reservations (in which case the fee will be returned).

 COMMUNICATIONS

It is foreseen that up to 40 oral 15-minute talks will be presented during the workshop. If the number of worthy contributions will exceed this number the organization of poster sessions will be considered.

Abstracts should be submitted before the 15th of September, an appropriate form being available at Web site. The acceptance will be communicated to the corresponding authors before the 28th of September.

A detailed program and a book of abstracts will be posted in the Web site in October.

 PROCEEDINGS

The proceedings will be published in a special, but consecutively numbered, hardbound issue of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A. The contributions must be original and they will not be accepted in case they have been or are expected to be published elsewhere. A copy of the proceedings, included in the conference fee, will be sent to all participants.

Due to limitations in the total number of pages the papers should not exceed 4 NIM pages and the deadline for paper submissions will be the 7th of January 2002.
